Christine Matthée is the director and founder of the Passerelle Dance Studio and is also its main teacher.

Her beginnings
After graduating from the Brussels Conservatory, Christine was admitted to the Folkwang Hochschule Essen. There she was taught by Dominique Mercy, Malou Airaudo and Lutz Förster, among others. Christine shines above all in her improvisation and creativity. She had the opportunity to develop her sense of improvisation during Carolyn Carlson’s Master Classes. Back in Brussels, she danced as a performer and choreographer for several companies, while giving classes. This double commitment allowed her to enrich her technique, being particularly attentive to placement, which she developed thanks to the Cecchetti technique taught by Brynar Mehl, Janet Panetta and Brian Butcher. She finds in this classical technique more respect for each person’s morphology.

The magnificent adventure of La Passerelle
After 5 years of teaching and choreographing for a dozen schools, Christine wanted to open her own, a space where she could develop and teach her vision of dance. In 2000, she finally opened the doors of La Passerelle. The main ideas of her teaching are respect and the feeling of each person: respect of the morphology that should not be forced, of the sensitivity that should be awakened. Teaching means understanding and accompanying, not imposing a technique or an idea. Christine also makes sure that each student has fun at each stage of the learning process, by inviting them to evolve, to become more aware of their body, to rely on the music so that each one of them can be sublime in their dance.

To train, to develop, to share…
The search for true movement, the right movement, pushes Christine to continue to train, to draw from other fields everything that could be beneficial for her art:

– Practising the Alexander Technique with Claire Destrée since 2013
– Training in abdology and bio mechanics of the pelvis at the Institut de Gasquet in Paris
– Core yoga training with Sandro Zatta
– Workshop at the Tanztheater with Dominique Duszynski
– Training in Humphrey’s Limon Technique and anatomy for movement with Michèle Swennen
– Training in body-psychology at the Centre for Muscle and Joint Chains-Method GDS.
– Masterclass in non-violent communication, neuroscience, mindfulness, meditation and yoga therapy and Major Movement…
– …

Convinced that the well-being of the body and inner beauty contribute to each other’s blossoming, Christine Matthée takes pleasure in sharing her knowledge and accompanying her students along this beautiful path of life, dance and health.
